Why is professionalism dissapearing?

Growing up, I was taugh that there's a time for seriousness and there's a time to play. Seeing as how my childhood was extremely diverse, I believe that it's safe for me to assume that the majority of us are taught this lesson throughout our childhood.
These lessons come to mind as I'm watching the process of this presidential election, which honestly, is disheartening. I've spoken to countless adults on the subject of this election, and all seem to agree with me when I relate that the manner in which our potential nominees (republican nominees) are behaving is childish.
Now isn't that something to step back and think about for a second? The men that are asking us for the keys to our country seem to be incapable of holding a professional, and polite conversation with each other, while on national television. Donald Trump, "The man who made the election famous", has just last week defended the size of his " " on National TV. Why? Because a fellow nominee mocked the size of Donald's hands, and hinted that this spoke to the size of his genetalia.
I tend to compare the election process to a job interview. An interview requires professionalism, confidence, and well informed answers. It also requires self control under pressure, and quick thinking. So why do we see candidates talking over one another on the debate stage, childish mockery, name calling, and lies made in an attempt to demean competing candidates. These men are asking the American people for their vote, in order to obtain the top position of power in the most respected and powerful country in the world. On top of that, all of these men come from backgrounds that require extreme professional behavior.
Then why have the top three candidates chosen to throw this experience out the window? The years of failures and lessons that taught these men how to behave in a position of power, squashed like it is no longer important to present oneself as a careful, and respectful, human being.
Now I must admit that I have no intentions of voting democratic, regardless of these shenanigans the republican candidates have been displaying; But why is this even an issue, why have these men chosen to embarrass themselves in such a powerful position, and one with intense media coverage at that.
I ask my readers to respond to this question. Why is this lack of fundamental behaviors required for such a position dissapearing? What would spark this ignorance into existence? Thank you all, until next time.

  1. Hi, Jesse. This post is exactly my thoughts on the election. It’s terrifying to see the person who is going to run our country act childish during debates, whoever it may be, because honestly it pertains to all of them. I think it may be for attention and publicity, that’s the only explanation I can think of. We have all heard the saying “any attention is good attention”, and if you think about it Trump is getting the most attention from his outlandish quotes and toddler-esque actions during debates, and he is leading the polls. I have heard it said that the people of America simply want change in our leadership, and let’s face it, these men arguing about the most irrelevant things, are definitely a change, but it’s not the change that I think America needs.

    1. Bailey I totally agree. Publicity isn't always for the right reasons, and the men who want to run our country are finding ways to monopolize the media but not in a way we find makes us comfortable with them running our country.

  2. As of this moment, the only thing that seems pertinent to our presidential nominees is that they make an impression. Whether that impression is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ does not appear to be relevant, only that it is ‘entertaining.’ The immaturity they have begun to display is a prime example and, unfortunately, is also effective.

The election process is not just a job interview, it is a job interview for one of the most powerful positions in the world. Logically speaking, there should be absolutely no room for the type of behavior that has been exhibited by many candidates thus far, republican and democratic. And yet, this emotionally charged volley of insults and atrocities, this blatant disrespect of each other, their position, and their country is actually accruing these nominees support.

What does this say about our nation? What does that say about our future?

I, for one, am terrified of what this country is becoming. It is slowly but surely burying itself in ignorance and mismanagement, and our next president could very well be the grain of sand that triggers the final landslide.

  3. I completely understand how you feel in regards to the ongoing presidential elections, it is very sad to see the potential leaders of our country displaying the exact qualities that we do not want the people running our country to exhibit. I personally do not who I want to vote for, because I cannot support any candidate who relies upon childish tactics, such as trashing other candidates, because they are not confident enough in their own abilities. If they cannot get themselves elected, through the means of their unique skills, how can we expect them to run our country? Thank you for bringing to light such an important issue and having the courage to talk about something that quite a few people are uncomfortable speaking about.

  4. This is very true. To me, it does not seem like a presidential election at all. It seems like something you would see out of WWE. I think the person who started all this was Donald Trump because when I think of WWE, I remember when Donald Trump behaving similar toward that McMahon guy. It is very disheartening seeing the future leaders of your country act very childish. It gives America in other countries a bad name because of the things they say toward one another. I find this election very scary. I don't want to live in a country where our leader is out there in front of the world acting like a child. I honestly think the candidates are fit physically but not mentally.
